Epidemiological Our Knowledge Publishing Epidemiological Profile of Congenital and Gestational Syphilis in Recife, Pernambuco Paperback

Syphilis remains a major public health challenge, especially during pregnancy, due to the serious maternal and neonatal outcomes associated with the infection. This study analyzes the epidemiological characteristics of gestational and congenital syphilis in Recife, Pernambuco, between 2017 and 2022, covering both the pre-pandemic and COVID-19 pandemic periods. Based on data from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN), this study discusses changes in the case profile, the sociodemographic characteristics of pregnant women, and challenges related to diagnosis, prenatal care, and the quality of case reports. The results underscore the need to strengthen public policies on surveillance, prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment, thereby contributing to the fight against syphilis and the improvement of maternal and child health.
