A Libri GmbH A Few Hours in a Far-Off Age

A hush falls over a future world, strange yet strangely familiar, as the boundaries of gender, power, and society are reimagined with daring clarity. In this visionary work of utopian fiction, the ordinary dissolves into the extraordinary, and the pulse of nineteenth century ambition beats through every page. Set against the backdrop of an Australia transformed by hope and reason, the novel unfolds as both a speculative fiction and a pointed social commentary, interrogating the structures that bind women and limit dreams. Through elegantly drawn scenes and incisive dialogue, it explores the urgent questions of gender equality and the possibilities of a society built upon justice and mutual respect.Written during an era when women's rights fiction was rare and often radical, the narrative's progressive spirit remains striking. Its early feminist writing does not merely imagine a better world; it challenges the reader to consider how such a world might come to be. The story's keen observations and satirical edge illuminate the struggles and aspirations of those who sought not only suffrage but a fundamental transformation of social life. Australian literature rarely produced such a bold and prescient voice in the speculative tradition, and this novel's influence can be traced through the lineage of feminist literature that followed. This book was out of print for decades and is now republished by Alpha Editions.
