The Libri GmbH The Elephant in the Rearview Mirror Paperback

What happens when two seasoned travelers trade comfortable routines for a rooftop tent, unpredictableroads, and an aging Land Cruiser named Betty? In The Elephant in the Rearview Mirror, Marc McKinney and Nikki Kenyon share the funny, frightening, frustrating, and unforgettable reality of exploring southern Africa on their own terms. Their journey takesthem across remote borders, through deep sand and flooded tracks, into wild camps, and far beyondanything resembling a well-marked plan.Along the way, there are breakdowns, wrong turns, close encounters, questionable decisions, and momentswhen turning back would have been the sensible choice. Fortunately, sensible was never really the point.Told with warmth, honesty, and plenty of self-deprecating humor, this is not a polished tale of fearlessexplorers who always know what they are doing. It is the story of two people learning as they go, relying oneach other, laughing when everything falls apart, and discovering that the best adventures often beginwhere comfort ends.More than a travel memoir, The Elephant in the Rearview Mirror is a celebration of partnership, perseverance, and the wonderfully unpredictable road ahead. It is for anyone who has ever dreamed of leaving thefamiliar behind-and for those who understand that the stories worth telling rarely come from the dayswhen everything went according to plan.
