Spencer Trethewy (born 1971) was a 19-year-old self-proclaimed property developer, who saved Aldershot Football Club from closure in August 1990 with a £200,000 signed affidavit. He remained on the club's board as a director for just three months, and was voted off by the other directors after it transpired that he was unable to repay any of the money he had borrowed from other individuals in order to honour the affidavit. He never spoke publicly about the situation until 2008 when the NLP ran an indepth interview which the Editor was shown documents that seemed to clear Trethewy of any wrong doing. It was also shown that he mortgaged his home for the benefit of the club.
