A mysterious wrist device, a talking iguana, and one enormous question send Ziggy and Iggy millions of years into the past. One moment they are surrounded by books and fossils at home, and the next they are standing beneath towering prehistoric plants while gigantic footprints disappear into the mud ahead. Ziggy is thrilled to discover what dinosaurs were really like. Iggy is considerably less excited about meeting anything with teeth larger than his head.

Their journey carries them across different ages of the dinosaur world, where gentle giants shake the ground, armored plant-eaters defend themselves with powerful weapons, and swift predators hunt through ancient forests. Along the way, Ziggy discovers how teeth can reveal what an animal ate, how footprints record movement, how rock layers preserve pieces of deep time, and how a buried bone can survive for millions of years as a fossil. Every clue connects the living creatures around him to the evidence paleontologists study today.

But prehistoric Earth is far more dangerous when the animals are alive. As Ziggy and Iggy explore nesting grounds, riverbanks, forests, and vast open plains, curiosity keeps pulling them closer to creatures that are better admired from a distance. And when one of the most fearsome predators in history appears nearby, Ziggy may have to use everything he has learned to keep himself and one increasingly nervous iguana from becoming part of the fossil record.
