Animal and plant life reflect the significance of the biotic and abiotic factors at play in each biotope. Similarly, they illustrate the effects of human activity on the natural environment. To characterize and introduce the concept of coastal habitat conservation, we conducted a study of the animal biodiversity of the coastal dunes of Souira Kédima and the dunes in the coastal region of the city of Essaouira. The faunal inventory of the coastal dunes of Souira Kédima shows that, despite various constraints, this type of habitat can support a highly diverse fauna in terms of both species richness and abundance. In contrast, the faunal inventory of the coastal dune habitat in Essaouira reveals a very significant decline in fauna on both levels.
