Boboye: Un exemple de développement de l'irrigation à petite échelle au Niger Paperback

In Niger, as throughout the Sahel, small-scale irrigation has been adopted not only to address recurring grain shortages but also to provide additional income for local communities. Despite the unique context of southern Dallol Bosso (Boboye), local communities have embraced irrigation, the development of which has gained momentum thanks to support from the government, technical and financial partners, and individual initiatives. Indeed, this is one of the areas notorious for conflicts between farmers and herders, stemming primarily from land disputes and rapid population growth-among the highest in Niger-which has led to increased needs. Added to this are soil salinity in irrigated areas and the phenomenon of rural exodus. This research aims to study and analyze the factors that make the Boboye irrigation systems more effective in combating food insecurity and reducing poverty among the population.
