Libri GmbH Agent Evie Broché

Bernard O'Connor's historical faction explores the clandestine world of the Special Operations Executive (SOE) during the Second World War. The story is framed through a contemporary dialogue between a history teacher and a languages teacher named Laura, as they discuss the real-life exploits of famous agents like Violette Szabó. Interspersed with this conversation is a detailed first-person journal written by an SOE-trained agent known as "Evie," who recounts her escape from occupied France and her subsequent recruitment into British intelligence. The narrative vividly details the rigorous training, psychological screening, and extreme dangers faced by female couriers flown out of RAF Tempsford. Key themes include the secrecy of wartime operations, the brutal reality of Gestapo interrogation, and the logistical complexities of resistance work. Ultimately, it commemorates the bravery of women who served in undercover roles to support the Allied liberation of Europe.
