Description du produit

INTRODUCTIONCreek Street was more than a street. It was a world of its own.It was where I grew up, where friendships became brotherhoods, and where childhood slowly collided with the realities of the streets. Behind our houses ran the wash-a hidden highway connecting our homes, our friends, our adventures, and eventually our troubles.Under the streetlights, we played football as if we were beneath stadium lights. We rode bikes and rollerblades, played video games until morning, pulled pranks on one another, chased girls, went to house parties, fought, laughed, and dreamed. We were just kids. But Creek Street had another side.Violence was never far away. Party crews became gangs. Friends began carrying weapons. Police sirens became familiar sounds. Some of the people I grew up with would eventually be killed. Others would go to prison. Some simply disappeared from my life.I became a fighter.I learned early not to back down. There were times I came home with bloody knuckles and a ripped shirt. I was hit with bricks and stones. I was hit with chains and bars. I was stabbed in the neck. I survived fights, guns, jail, car crashes, and moments when only a few seconds separated me from a completely different ending.Somehow, I am still here. For much of my life, I believed God had a plan for me. After so many close calls, it was difficult not to wonder why I kept surviving. But as I grew older, I watched suffering consume people I loved. My faith became complicated. The questions became harder, and the answers I had been given as a child were no longer enough. This book is not only my story. It belongs to the people who walked Creek Street with me.The friends. The family. The fighters. The kids who once believed we were unstoppable. Some of them never made it out.I did.And after all these years, maybe surviving came with one final responsibility: to tell their story.
