Independently Published L'asphalte et l'Empire Broché

Set against the stark, concrete backdrop of North Philadelphia's Badlands, The Asphalt & The Empire is a gritty contemporary sports drama that follows two childhood best friends whose shared upbringing on the neighborhood courts collides with their divergent choices for survival.
Malik "Glide" Carter possesses elite spatial intelligence and world-class athletic talent, viewing a Division I college basketball scholarship as his family's sole legitimate ticket out of systemic poverty. Conversely, his best friend, Tariq Evans, utilizes his sharp, corporate-level tactical mind to rise through the ranks of the local narcotics syndicate, aiming to build an autonomous neighborhood empire. Serving as the emotional anchor between them is Maya Lin, an ambitious aspiring sports media coordinator who uses her camera lens to document Malik's athletic rise while attempting to buffer the escalating fallout of Tariq's world.
As Malik transfers to an elite suburban prep school and earns national recruiting attention, Tariq consolidates control over the North Philly heroin trade, running his territory like a modern logistics enterprise. However, Tariq's corporate street model shatters when a ruthless rival gang escalates the territorial dispute into absolute warfare, targeting neutral ground and shattering the windows of Maya's family bodega.
Realizing that Tariq's violent world threatens to drag down all three of them, Malik must overcome his class discomfort and step fully into his leadership on the court. On the same night Malik makes his Division I national television debut for Villanova University, Tariq leads his crew into a final, bloody standoff against rival forces and an incoming federal task force.
Recognizing that Malik's clean future is the only meaningful victory left for their neighborhood, Tariq intentionally absorbs the full weight of the federal indictment, shielding his inner circle and clearing all debts tied to Maya's family.
Eighteen months later, Malik stands on a newly renovated court at Fifth and Lehigh, preparing for the NBA Draft while Maya directs her debut film at Tribeca. Though physically separated by prison bars, luxury arenas, and new destinies, Malik, Maya, and Tariq remain permanently bound by the sacrifices made on the asphalt of North Philadelphia.
