A recent World Bank report estimates that 355,000 people worldwide die each year from unintentional pesticide poisoning. In the Central African Republic, thousands of metric tons of agricultural pesticides are used each year to protect various crops in an effort to achieve food self-sufficiency and alleviate the problem of famine. While, on the one hand, the use of these chemicals in crops such as cotton boosts yields per hectare and increases cotton farmers' incomes, on the other hand, these products-due to their toxicity or misuse-pose a real threat to humans, animals, and nature. This situation calls upon farmers, consumers, manufacturers of plant protection products, and governments worldwide to address the issue of the survival of humanity and our planet Earth, which is facing a constantly growing population that must be fed.
